After hemorrhaging players in the last few years, Leitrim Senior footballers are receiving good news for a change with the revelation that former Longford centre-back Enda Williams is set to the join the County set-up in the coming days.

County Board officials confirmed to the Leitrim Observer that the Clonguish clubman, who has relations in Aughavas, is expected to receive approval for an inter-county transfer in the coming days, switching from his native Longford to the Green & Gold.

Williams, who withdrew from the Longford panel last week, can transfer to Leitrim under the parentage rule but he is not expecting to line out with the Green & Gold next Sunday in Aughrim against Wicklow in a crunch Allianz NFL Division 4 encounter.

Williams could fill a problem position at centre-back for the County Senior footballers but he is expected to continue to play his club football with Clonguish.

Leitrim are also pursuing two other Dublin based players for the County Minor team, with Daragh McKiernan of Castleknock initially named in the starting 15 for last Saturday’s Connacht Minor Football League loss to Roscommon.
