It proved to be a weekend of mainly disappointing results for the Leitrim inter-county teams who were in action last weekend. With the exception of the victory for the senior footballers there was little to get excited about although the victory over Kilkenny did not come as a surprise and proved to be something of a formality.
Injuries forced the Leitrim management to completely alter the originally named full-forward line but there was some positive news with the return of Emlyn Mulligan and the Melvin Gaels man looked sharp throughout the game.
Leitrim had very little cause for concern over the course of the game and ran out 4-26 to 0-3 winners.
The other teams that were inaction unfortunately did not fare as well.
There were high hopes for the U-21 team ahead of their Connacht Championship semi-final clash with Sligo but the Leitrim challenge never materialised and Sligo were convincing 0-14 to 0-8 winners.
After their big win over Longford last week the Leitrim were on the receiving end of a drubbing at the hands of Fermangh in Ballinamore with the Ernesiders winning 6-27 to 2-6.
It was also a disappointing weekend for the minor footballers who were defeated by Roscommon in their second Connacht Minor League outing. The Rossies emerged 0-15 to 1-4 winners.
