Leitrim played their final home game of the Allianz National League Division 4 yesterday (Sunday) and it proved to be a winning occasion for the home side who were good value for their 0-14 to 1-8 win over Waterford.
Emlyn Mulligan top scored for Leitrim, finishing the game with a personal tally of eight points, seven of which came from frees.
The game saw three Leitrim players make their debuts with Shane Moran and Colin Ryan both starting while Glencar/Manorhamilton’s Gary Loughlin was introduced to the action after goalkeeper Cathal McCrann sustained an injury. Loughlin had to be at his best for Leitrim as he was forced to make several fine saves.
Leitrim bring their league campaign to a conclusion next Sunday when they visit Fermanagh who have already guaranteed promotion to Division 3 for next year.
In what was a good weekend for the county’s footballers the minor team recorded an impressive and thoroughly deserved victory over Mayo, winning 3-8 to 1-9.
