Leitrim’s victory in Ruislip was a landmark win for a young Green & Gold side according to keeper Cathal McCrann ahead of next Sunday’s trip to McHale Park to take on Mayo.
“We spoke for two weeks beforehand about all we wanted was a one point win, we didn’t really care about the performance, we just wanted to get out of London like every other team. That is all we wanted and that is what we done so we’re back to the drawing board for Mayo.”
Cathal admits the London game was a difficult test but he always felt confident – “We didn’t panic because we knew they were going to get a run at it at some stage like when they got that goal and that three or four points either side of halftime.
“We kept chipping away at it, we had a few bad wides but we always believed in ourselves that all we wanted was a one point win and it didn’t matter after that.
“There was a stage there when we got it back to two points and they went down and got it back to three, we weren’t able to break that two point barrier. But once we got within a point of them, that was when I felt that we were going to kick on and win it.
“There was at least a ten minute spell when we were trying to get that two point barrier broken and we weren’t able to, there was a small bit of pressure on us but once we got that point, we were always going to kick on.”
