Avoiding defeat in London has been the only thing on Leitrim supporters minds over the past year but despite what has to be incredible pressure on Leitrim ahead of the trip to Ruislip, joint manager Brian Breen is relishing the increased stakes!
“There is going to be a lot of pressure but as I say, pressure is for tyres!” joked Brian, before adding “There is no harm being under pressure, it is how you react to the pressure is the most important thing.
“Pressure comes when you don’t feel fit in mind and body but you’re feeling good about yourself, you don’t feel pressure in the sense of fear. We’re very much looking forward to the London game and I feel that if we can produce the form we are producing at present and our attitude at present, then a win is on the cards.
“Sure there is pressure to win but I suppose the difference, I’m far more content, even though I’m still under pressure as a manager, today than I was going home after the Fermanagh game even thought I was under pressure then today. It is contentment of pressure.
“Having a new team brings its own joys because this team don’t know what it’s like to go over there. We can go over without any big pressure on and I know towards the end of my career, I was afraid of going over. These boys don’t know the fear so if we can get our own game right, knuckle down and talk about ourselves.”
And the Leitrim boss feels that London too might feel unexpected pressure - “There is going to be more pressure on them that they haven’t experienced before and it will be interesting to see how they react.
“But their results in the championship last year have earned that right but that comes with its own little bit of pressure that they wouldn’t have had before in that they may possibly be favourites going into the game.
