Next Saturday’s Pyramid Bookmakers Junior B Championship Final between Aughawillan and Glencar/Manorhamilton has been called off two days before it was scheduled to take place.
The Junior B decider was fixed for Saturday in Pairc Sean Mac Diarmada at 3.30 but an email from Leitrim GAA County Board Secretary Diarmuid Sweeney this evening (Thursday) revealed that the match was off and the matter will now be discussed by the Competitions Control Committee.
The Leitrim Observer understands that Aughawillan informed the County Board they would not be fulfilling the fixture after their attempts to have the game deferred failed. Aughawillan sought to have the game postponed due to the involvement of players from their Senior team, who face St. Mary’s Kiltoghert in the Senior Final on Sunday week, with the Junior B side.
According to the GAA’s Official Guide, failure to fulfill a knockout game in the championship leads to the automatic disqualification of the club who fails to field and the awarding of the game to the opposing team.
A club who fails to fulfill a championship fixture can also be “compelled to pay any fine imposed for loss of revenue by the Committee-in-charge and all vouched reasonable expenses incurred and failure to do so shall involve a suspension of 48 weeks.
