The Leitrim Observer has learned that five players, including Conor Beirne, have joined the Leitrim Senior football training panel ahead of next month’s Connacht Championship meeting with Roscommon.

The Observer understands that Conor Beirne will be joined by his brother Mark, Mohill duo Shane Quinn and Alan McLoughlin and Aughnasheelin’s Barry McWeeney on an extended training panel which is not yet finalised.

With the championship fast approaching, the Observer understands that manager Sean Hagan is in the process of finalising his panel for the forthcoming Connacht campaign with a number of players expected to join and leave the panel.

Conor Beirne, man of the match in last year’s Intermediate Championship Final, has not been involved with the County Senior side since being dropped last May but the Eslin man has made a dramatic return and would be a huge addition to the squad.

His brother Mark had been on the squad a number of years ago but has been working in London. A verstile player at home in defence, midfield and attack, Mark’s return could give Leitrim a few different options.

Barry McWeeney was drafted into the Senior panel last year for the Armagh Qualifier game after injuries hit the Leitrim panel while Mohill duo Quinn and McLoughlin were both members of the County U21 side that reached the Connacht Final, both having been on the Senior panel for the FBD League.
