Croke Park has confirmed that Leitrim’s All-Ireland Championship Qualifier against Down in Newry has been fixed for next Sunday afternoon, June 29, in Pairc Esler, Newry.

Qualifier games are normally fixed for Saturdays but representations from the Leitrim County Board to avoid a clash with the County’s Minor team’s match with Roscomon in Hyde Park on Saturday evening have obviously borne fruit as the game has been fixed for next Sunday at 2pm.

The news will be welcomed by supporters who will faced a race across the country if the two games had been fixed for Saturday.

In other GAA news, the second round of the Connacht Gold Senior Championship and GWP Intermediate Championship have been fixed for the weekend of July 5/6, which may lead to yet another clash over fixtures if the County Minor side are successful in Hyde Park on Saturday evening.

If the Minors beat Roscommon, they would qualify for the Provincial Final on Sunday, July 13, just a week after the second round of the club cham pionships.

Some clubs expressed serious disquiet over the failure of members of the County Minor panel to line out for their clubs in the first round of the championship.
