Down manager Mark Copeland was a relieved man after the Mourne Ladies won their way to the All-Ireland Final after extra-time.
Speaking to the Observer, Mark said “Delighted, it makes up for getting beaten in the semi-final last year. We did it the hard way, as usual these girls leave it late and give us a heart-attack on the line.
“But I think in extra-time, we dug deep and these girls have been training hard and the extra training they did paid off. Leitrim were definitely on top.”
Mark paid tribute to his players, particularly Eliza Downey who kept Aine Tighe well wrapped up - “Sinead Fegan won player of the match and it probably reflects the shift she put in.
“Eliza, the full-back, she knows Aine Tighe from University football and we knew she would be well suited to the type of football Aine likes to play. In terms of our forwards, we were very good, I thought Kyla and Aileen put in a very big shift today. Lauren Cunningham is that type of player, she likes to play that role of getting up and down the pitch.
“We’re looking forward to the final, the girls will enjoy tonight, they deserve it but it is back onto the training field after.”
