All-Ireland Finals are very rarely held in Leitrim, rarer still hurling finals but the county will host the All-Ireland Hurling U16 C Championship for the Stephen Dorrigan Cup.

Six counties, including Leitrim, will vie for the honour of winning the Stephen Dorrigan Cup for the first time on Saturday week, August 29, and Leitrim were given the honour of hosting the competition for the first time.

The Cup was presented to the GAA earlier this year by the Dorrigan family in memory of the late Stephen Dorrigan, a noted hurler with both Gortletteragh and Leitrim.

Leitrim’s young hurlers will face Longford, Louth, Fermanagh, Cavan and Fermanagh in the competition which will be run in blitz format with two groups of three teams and the winners progressing to the final.

Also on the hurling front, Gortletteragh and Cluainin will contest the semi-finals of the All Counties Hurling League, Gortletteragh taking on Longford Slashers while Manor face Tourlestrane.
