Leitrim’s Aine Tighe has been nominated for an O’Neill’s/TG4 Ladies Football All Stars which were announced last Monday.

The Kiltubrid sharpshooter has been nominated for the full-forward line but Aine faces stiff competition to make the final selection as she faces the likes of Monaghan’s Ciara McAnespie, Dublin’s Sinead Aherne and Cork’s Amy O’Shea while Templeport’s Aisling Doonan has also been nominated following her exploits in leading Cavan to the Intermediate Final.

Strangely, newly crowned Intermediate champions Westmeath have no-one among the 45 nominations while even stranger, Senior All-Ireland champions Cork received eight nominations while defeated finalists Monaghan got 10 and Dublin nine.

Unfortunately for the three Leitrim club players on the Cavan team in last Sunday’s TG4 All-Ireland Intermediate Final replay, it was Westmeath who came away with the victory after they recovered from a four point deficit to snatch a well deserved victory.

Aughawillan’s Grainne McGlade and Ballinaglera’s Ailish Cornyn both started the game while St. Joseph’s Ciara Gray was a late substitute. There was one further Leitrim connection as Drumlane’s Claire Kerins, who works in Carrick-on-Shannon’s Health Board offices, started the final in place of Gray.
