“It is nice to win and get that auld monkey off the back from the Qualifiers,” said Cathal McCrann as he contemplated an historic victory for Leitrim last Saturday.
Leitrim’s woes in the Qualifiers are well known and Cathal admitted it was a factor in Leitrim’s pre-match thinking – “I suppose we have been unlucky down through the years but it was great to get a team that was in the same division as us.
“You wanted to break that record especially when people are saying that it is a poor team. It might be a poor team but we’re still the first Leitrim team to win a Qualifier game, we’re going to play four championship games this year so it is all positive stuff.
“It was a little in the mind but we believed we could beat Wicklow. Yeah, they might have won it out but we believed that if we got a nice draw, we were well capable of winning it and it is nice to come back with a win after the Mayo hammering.”
