After years of domination by Aughawillan, Leitrim Ladies will crown their third different champions in as many years when St. Joseph’s and Mohill meet in next Monday’s Senior Championship Final in Cloone, 8 pm throw-in.

Following on from Cloone and Dromahair, St. Joseph’s, defeated in the last two Finals, take on a Mohill team who got the better of Kiltubrid in a semi-final last Saturday following controversy over the Mohill club’s original passage to the final.

St Joseph’s secured their place in this year’s final when they got the better of Dromahair in a competitive encounter in Drumshanbo. St Joseph’s ability to deal with the scoring threat of Roisin Fowley, with Vanessa Gallogly outstanding in defence meant Dromahair’s attacking threat was nullified allowing St Joseph’s to dictate proceedings.

There are key players all over the pitch for St Joseph’s with a number of players having represented Leitrim at both senior and underage while Ciara Gray plays for Cavan. Twins Michelle and Aine Heslin always pose a scoring threat while Clare Owens and Deirdre Moran are others that are vital to the St Joseph’s cause.

Mohill may be regarded as a young team but they are not without experienced players as within their ranks they possess three of Leitrim’s best players this year in Mairead Stenson, Deirdre Moran and Kiara Keegan and they advanced to the final with a win over Kiltubrid.

Defenders Olivia Gilmartin and Claire Beirne were excellent against Aine Tighe while Dearbhaile Beirne who has been impressing for several years at underage inter-county level finished the game with a tally of 3-5.
