A dominant midfield display and the superb finishing of Deirdre McDermott and Kiara Keegan was more than enough for Mohill to see off Sean O’Heslin’s in the Clarke’s Butchers Division Two Final last Saturday in Fenagh.
CLARKE’S BUTCHERS DIVISION TWO FINAL
With Mairead Stenson and Deirdre Ward dominant in the middle of the field, it ensured that Mohill’s forwards had a plentiful supply of ball and Keegan and McDermott made the most of it as they scored 2-9 in the first half to lay the foundations for victory.
Ballinamore’s cause was not helped by the absence of Katie Duignan due to injury before the game while the loss of Linda Harte ten minutes in was another blow as the corner-back damaged her wrist in blocking a certain goal.
However, such was Mohill’s display and their overall scoring power that it is doubtful whether the former Senior Championship finalists could have been stopped as Ballinamore are still making the step up in grades.
After a slow start to the contest, Mohill finally opened the scoring on eight minutes with Deirdre McDermott pointing but they soon stamped their class on the game when Orlaith Gordon and Kiera Keegan both goaled in a two minute spell.
