We had a fantastic response last week to our query looking for names of a Leitrim GAA Club team in New York from the 1960s. Within a matter of days, we had all the names and areas from which the players hailed from.
The match took place in Gaelic Park when Leitrim beat Cavan 1-9 to 1-8 in the President Kennedy Games. Packy McGarty scored eight points with Gerry O’Malley guesting with Leitrim while Charlie Gallagher (Cavan) and Joe Lennon (Down) were guesting with Cavan.
The team is as follows: Back, from left) trainer Paddy McGreevey (Drumkeerin), John Brennan (New York), Tony Gormley (Aughnasheelin), Gerry O’Malley (Roscommon), Pat Murray (Drumeela), Eddie Doohan (Donegal), Sean Kilkenny (Cloone), Seamus Brogan (Ballinamore/Galway), Seamus Rooney (Manorhamilton), Joe Taylor (Eslin), Sean Duignan (Kiltubrid).
