Leitrim 1-13

Longford 0-4

Leitrim ladies enjoyed a comprehensive and relatively straight forward victory over neighbours Longford in last Sunday’s Bord Gais Ladies NFL Division 3 encounter in Ballinamore’s Pairc Sean Ui Eslin on Sunday last.

While the winning margin shows Leitrim were victorious by 12 points, the game was in fact much more one sided in favour of the home side.

With Sarah McLoughlin causing all sorts of trouble for the Longford defence and the midfield combination of Sinead Fowley and Deirdre Ward on top throughout the game, Leitrim were able to introduce numerous substitutes, safe in the knowledge that the game was over as a contest from an early stage.

From a Leitrim point of view, there encouraging performances all over the pitch. The scarcely troubled full back line looked assured while the half backs were very efficient in terms of breaking up attacks and launching counter-attacks. Claire Owens was one of Leitrim’s stand out performers as she showed great athleticism covering huge portions of the pitch and was equally effective in defence and in attack.

The movement of the Leitrim forwards was something the Longford defence had difficulty coping with all afternoon. Michelle Reynolds, Sarah McManus & Aine Tighe all looked sharp but it was the performance of McLoughlin which really illustrated the gulf between the sides.
