Emlyn wants to look forward, not back

It might be 2008 since he last saw championship action for Leitrim but after two years marred by cruciate knee injuries, Emlyn Mulligan is determined to look forward and not back when it comes to next Sunday’s clash with Sligo.

Asked about over-coming after a two year injury nightmare, the Melvin Gaels clubman said “2008 seems a long time alright, two years have passed but I’m not looking back, I’m looking to the future. I just can’t wait to get this championship up and running.

“It has been a long two years and this time of year is particularly tough when it comes to championship which I missed for the last two years. As I said, I don’t want to linger on it or look back, keep going on about it. I’m back now and I feel that I have more to contribute to be honest that I did in 2008 when I was a bit younger. Hopefully, I can be somewhat more beneficial and be a bit of a boost to the lads.”

His two year injury nightmare means that Emlyn doesn’t look too far ahead either as he counts his blessings – “I’m taking every training session as it comes, I don’t even look to the week ahead. It is a bonus to get the win or a result.

“At this stage, all I’m looking to do is finish a match or a training session but my main long term goal this year was to get back playing and push on for next year. It has worked out alright for me so far, I feel that I’m in good enough shape and hopefully, it will turn out alright for me on May 22.”
