“We’ve got to be realistic, we’ve come a long way with a totally decimated squad and rebuilding,” Moran told the Observer, “ but I’ve nothing but pride for the young lads with the commitment they’re showing. It is just that, a result today, I really thought we would have justified some type of a result today but that is the way it goes.”

Yet Mickey was unable to hide his disappointment – “Of all the games, I’m very, very disappointed with this one. I thought we came back from a four point deficit in the first half and then we went ahead. We went behind again with the goal which was a killer for us.

“We came back again and went ahead, then at crucial times, we had chances to tap the ball over or make better use of the ball and we didn’t.

“We were just a wee bit inexperienced there near the end, we lost our shape a wee bit and we just didn’t make it count with the possession we had. We took the wrong options, sometimes we fumbled, our first touch wasn’t good enough.

“But I’m proud of the boys, they played some great football there in the first half to come back from the dead. I thought at that stage we were playing by far the better football, considering their full-forward line which is some set-up and I thought we coped reasonably well.”
