Considering he wanted to take the late free that might have snatched victory for Leitrim, it was no surprise to learn that Kevin Conlan was relieved to have another bite of the cherry.

Leitrim face into a replay next Sunday in Hyde Park against London as the Dromahair man admitted there was a lot of relief that Leitrim did get the draw - “Relief, yeah, without a doubt. Tight game, we expected it but a lot of set-backs.

“It was just about recovering, we did that, we’re still in it and we’ll look forward to next week. I thought we did very well without panicking. I think we’re relieved but we will regroup.

“I said it during the week that it was going to be a great game for a neutral so it lived up to the expectations.”

One chance that didn’t come Kevin’s way despite his best efforts was the late fifty that might have snatched victory had it been successful but an injury in scoring Leitrim’s equalising point forced him out of the action.

“I had made the call to come off with injury and the call was made. I don’t know if I would have been able to kick it but I would have tried.”
