Commemorative plaque to Mac Diarmada in Dowra

A Commemorative Plaque to Sean MacDiarmada was unveiledon Monday morning, July 25 near Dowra, in Co Cavan.

The plaque was unveiled at the former Tullynamoyle National School, to commemorate that Sean MacDiarmada attended the school in 1904 to learn Irish under the principal Patrick McGauran, a renowned Irish speaker.

MacDiarmada moved to Tullynamoyle and stayed with his aunt Catherine McGourty to learn Irish as the language was not on the school curriculum at his local school in Kiltyclogher and he was hoping to train to be a teacher. Along with a plaque, an information panel has been installed giving information on the school, it's former teachers and pupils.
