Leitrim represented at Waterways meeting

Waterways Ireland recently held a successful Local Authority Networking Meeting in Athlone. Bringing together the key staff from tourism, sport, economic development and heritage; the 19 Local Authorities with whom Waterways Ireland works were well represented on the day.

Presentations were made on the different aspects of Waterways Ireland's work across Blueways, Property, Communications, Heritage, Sponsorship and Education. These were followed by workshops examining potential projects, opportunities and partnerships. The open and participative dialogue brought forward a whole range of information which is being collated and will be actioned. Feedback received from the meeting has been positive with further networking activity planned for the future.

Sharon Lavin, Head of Marketing & Communications Waterways Ireland, confirmed "This networking meeting is one step in a process which we hope will develop and strengthen relationships with all 19 of our local authority partners across the country. Waterways Ireland intends to work more closely with our local authority partners to deliver more projects, supporting and growing economic and socially sustainable waterway communities and businesses."

Waterways Ireland works with the Councils in Carlow, Kilkenny, Laois, Offaly, Kildare, Dublin City, Fingal, South Dublin, Longford, Westmeath, Galway, Tipperary, Clare, Roscommon, Leitrim, Cavan, Fermanagh, Causeway and Mid Ulster.
