Congratulations to all our young athletes who performed so well last weekend at the Athletics Ireland Juvenile Indoors in Athlone and particularly Joanna Duignan who won a silver medal in the U-18 400m, her first ever All-Ireland and a great achievement for someone so new to the sport.

Joanna also finished sixth in the 200m, running two new personal bests in both finals.

One of our youngest athletes Cailtlin Surlis also turned in a great display to take fifth in the U-12 Shot with a personal best, a great tribute to the work Cailtlin and coach Siobhan Whelan have put in. Cian Singleton also did well in his event.

Cathal McElgunn had a pair of fifth places in the U-19 200m and 400m Finals over the weekend, a great achievement to reach two National Finals while Stephen McDermott was joint sixth in the U-16 High Jump, below his best with 1.55m but a learning experience for the Summer ahead.

Mollie Crossley reached the U-17 60m Hurdles Final where she finished 7th while Dara Morahan (U-16 Hurdles), Brian Finn (U-15 Long Jump) and Cian Murray (U-18 400m) were all in action over the weekend with Brian finishing ninth in his event with a jump of 4.12m. Thanks to all the parents who travelled down to cheer on the athletes over the weekend, it was a long but very enjoyable two days of competition in a fantastic new venue.

Training resumes for the Primary School Group on Tuesday, April 9.
