Leitrim’s Gero Gilmartin took home to Kinlough the silver medal at the recent National Minor Schools Swimming Championships held in the NAC Dublin.
Gero, son of Liam and Mandy Gilmartin, swam an exhilarating 31.43 for his 50 free with 1st coming in at 31.42. This is the sixth National medal 11-year-old Gero has won representing his school, Four Masters NS, and community in North Leitrim. Well done Gero.
Gero’s younger sister Emma competed in the Leitrim indoor Athletics competition. Representing North Leitrim AC, Emma won her individual running event and bronze for team relay. Well done to all the club members for their achievements on the day.
Carrick Fins compete at National School Finals
Carrick Fins were well represented at the recent National School Finals held at the Aquatic Centre in Dublin.
Oliver Kearney had a particularly good performance picking up gold and silver, gold in the 50m backstroke with a time of 39.02 and took silver in the 50m butterfly. Conor Lanigan finished 6th in the final of seven to nine age boys 50m butterfly. There was good performances also from Elsie Harman, Maria McGrenaghan, Lauren McKeon, Holly McWeeney & Niamh McDonagh.
Gala in Longford: On Saturday February 27, there is a B/C Gala in Longford. Times will be confirmed later in the week.
Carrick-on-Shannon Area Community Games
Dates have been set for the Area Finals for the Carrick-on-Shannon Area Community Games. The following are the events:
Hand-writing: U10, U12, Boys & Girls in St Mary’s National School on Thursday, February 25, from 6-7pm, registration from 5.30pm
Art & Model Making: U8 to U16 Boys & Girls in St Mary’s National School on Friday, February 26, from 6-9pm, registration from 5.30.
Swimming: Saturday March 12 in Aura Leitrim Leisure Carrick-on-Shannon at 7pm, registration from 6pm
Quiz: Mixed U-14 team (panel of 6) in St Mary’s National School on Thursday, February 25. Must register in advance by February 18. Entry fee €4.
Please bring copy of birth cert to event unless registered last year.
Leitrim Scor na mBunscoileanna
Scór na mBunscoileanna takes place on March 3 & 4. With rounds in the Mayflower Drumshanbo on the Thursday night and Cloone Community Hall on Friday night. Both evenings start at 6.00 sharp.
Schools are reminded that all groups are to perform in their school uniforms and not in costumes.
The best performance on each night in each event will receive medals and the award for the best overall school over the two nights will receive the Cormac Mac Giolla Shield.
