Dearbhaile wins Connacht title

Dearbhaile Beirne of Mohill Community Schools won the AVIVA Connacht Schools Junior Combined Events title in Galway on Tuesday last.

Dearbhaile Beirne of Mohill Community Schools won the AVIVA Connacht Schools Junior Combined Events title in Galway on Tuesday last.

Second position went to Aisling McNabola of the same school and third was Niamh woods of St Enda’s, Galway.

The first three in each competition qualify for the All Ireland in Santry on Saturday next.

Dearbhaile’s score was 2208 points made up as follows: 75m Hurdles 14.00 (480 pts); Shot 6.79m (332 pts); Long Jump 4.54m (438 pts); High Jump 1.40m (512 pts); 800m 2.50.78 (456 pts).

Aisling McNabola secured 1126 points and Niamh Woods 1056 points.

SCHOOLS CROSS-COUNTRY TODAY

The Leitrim AAI Primary Schools Cross Country and Walks Championships take place today (Wednesday) at Leitrim Gaels Community Field starting at 11.30 am. The first three teams and individuals quality to represent Leitrim in the Connacht Championships in Calry, Sligo, on Saturday October 13.

COLIN RACES HALF MARATHON

Colin Griffin took part in the Charleville International half marathon on Sunday last and returned an impressive time of 72.31 in fifteenth position. The race was won by Sergio Ciobanu of Clonliffe Harriers in 64.52. It was his first running competition for a number of years and the time was particularly good when one bears in mind that he was on his break from normal training.
