Juniors celebrate success: The Leitrim County Junior Pool team had cause to celebrate both at home and away last weekend. The team won the Special Achievement Award in the Leitrim Sports Partnership Awards in the Landmark Hotel on Saturday. Accepting the Award on behalf of the team, Liam Shanley praised the commitment of the whole team, their parents, officials of the LPA and everyone involved in this occassion. Apologizing on behalf of the team, Liam informed the attendance that the team were taking part in a ranking tournament in Letterkenny, Co. Donegal.

Ranking Tournament: Kevin McWeeney found his old form and won the U-21s in Letterkenny, defeating team-mate Jamie Gaffney by 6-4. Gaffney went on to win the Junior title, defeating Adam Maher of Wexford 5-2 in the final. This is a wonderful achivement for the players with Kevin reaching the last 16 of the mens.

Keith Conlon last in the quarter-final of U-21 and again lost in the semi-final of the Juniors. Hard luck but remember the players face the most talented on the circuit. Also representing Leitrim on the Juniors Joe McGuire, Dara O’Shea, Paul Christie, David McWeeney and Stephen Croon. In the Seniors, Daragh McQuaid lost narrowly by 6-5 in the last 64 Gavin Donnelly, Colin Hamilton, Niall Sweeney all played well.

Car Wash Fundraiser: On Saturday next, the Association are holding a car wash fundraiser in aid of Childhood Days, Drumshanbo and St. Ciaran’s Service, Carrick at McCormack’s Leitrim Village and Drumshanbo from 9am to 4pm and your support will be greatly appreciated. All volunteers who can help out on the day would be very welcome. On Sunday the Association are holding the annual pool tournament in Carthy’s Lock 17 at 1pm. All pool players are invited to take part. Entry is optional. Again your support in aid of a very worthy cause. Any unwanted gifts for inclusion in raffles most welcome.
