In a busy weekend around the town, the members of Carrick Rowing Club joined in the festive spirit and repeated last year’s Christmas fundraiser for local charities.
Many members, current and former, rowed from Malin Head to Mizen Head on four rowing machines outside Glancy’s SuperValu on Saturday last, completing the 500+ kilometers in under seven hours. The money raised will be divided between the Carrick chapter of St Vincent de Paul and the North West Simon Community to aid in their Christmas appeals.
The club was delighted with the success of last Saturday’s event and wish to thank Padraig Glancy for his hospitality and the customers of SuperValu for their generosity in contributing to these worthy causes. We also wish to thank club members who gave of their time in organising the day and completing mileage on the ergs. Thanks especially go to our many junior members who spent Saturday working for those less fortunate as they continue to prove themselves a credit to the club and their families. Finally, the club wishes to thank Mick O’Rourke for his hard work in making this event a success.
In other news, winter training continues a pace for our members, many of whom will enjoy another trial on the Shannon on Saturday morning before entering a well deserved Christmas break. Finally, the club wish our members, friends and supporters around Leitrim and around the world a merry Christmas and all the best for 2013.
