Athletes of all shapes, sizes and disciplines will be heading for the border town of Swanlinbar on the June Bank Holiday weekend when the Cavan town hosts the James McManus Memorial Sprint Triathlon on Saturday, June 1.
The sprint triathlon event, starting at Brackley Lake on the N87 between Swanlinar and Bawnboy at 11 am sharp, consists of 750m swim in Brackley Lake – N87, 20 K Cycle on the road to Ballinamore – R202, 5 K run to the local town Bawnboy – N87.
This event has been organized by “Cuilgagh Triathlon Club”, who wanted to pay tribute to their dear friend and old triathlon team mate, James, who died last year at the age of 47 from cancer. A very worthy cause, as all proceeds will be going to Palliative Care Services in recognition of their dedication and good work in helping james and the family get through such difficult time. Also a very befitting tribute to James, a true gentleman and a sad loss to all that knew him
Teams are able to participate as well, so if you want to have purpose to your training, why not enter and see how well you, or your team can do. There will be different levels of ability so dont be afraid to change your outlook on your fitness programme, as triathlon, is the fastest growing sport in Ireland to date.
Registration is now taking place and numbers are limited. Log on to www.triathlonireland.com . There will be no registration on the day of the race. A one day licence will also need to be purchased to enter the race. For further information log onto cuilcaghtriclub.tk/
