The Annual Lough Allen Cycle in aid of Special Olympics Connaught is taking place on Sunday 14th September.

The Annual Lough Allen Cycle in aid of Special Olympics Connaught is taking place on Sunday 14th September.

Now in its second year, cyclists of all levels are encouraged to participate in the 70km sportif. This event is perfect for the seasoned cyclists and will take in breath-taking scenery around Lovely Leitrim’s Lough Allen region.

Registration for The Lough Allen Cycle costs €30 per cyclist and this event is chip timed, which will give each cyclist an opportunity to improve on their personal best.

Professional support will be provided along the route with roadside assistance, support vehicles and refreshment stops.

Light refreshments will be provided at The Lough Allen Hotel in Drumshanbo after the cycle with the opportunity to avail of the shower facilities and sports massage will also be available.

The cycle will commence at The Lough Allen Hotel at 9:15am and will take in Dowra, Drumkeerin, Leitrim Village, Kilclare, Drumcong before returning back to The Lough Allen Hotel. Registration is now open at www.specialolympics.ie and will also open from 7:30 am on the morning of the cycle.

Michael Carty, Regional Fundraising Coordinator for Special Olympics Connaught said; “This is the second year of the Lough Allen Charity Cycle in aid of Special Olympics Connaught. This event raises awareness and funds for Special Olympics. All the money raised from the registration fee is going towards Special Olympics Connaught.

The Lough Allen Cycle is proudly sponsored by Leitrim County Council.

In 2015, almost 100 of these athletes will be chosen to a part of Team Ireland who will represent their country at the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games”.
