Preparations are now under way in Manorhamilton for the annual North Leitrim Glens Run on Saturday, September 12 which consists of a 5Km fun run and a 10Km and 13.1 mile road race (41Km), measured and approved by the Athletics Association of Ireland.

Previous Glens Run events have brought in over €35,000 for local charities – North West Hospice, Lydia Branley Trust, Cystic Fibrosis Ireland, Multiple Sclerosis Society of Ireland, Sligo Leitrim Mountain Rescue, Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland, Our Lady’s Hospital Patient Comfort Fund, the Arás Breffni Patient Comfort Fund, Sharon House and the National Learning Network.

North Leitrim Glens Run Committee PRO John O’Dell says “with over 2,500 runners and walkers to date, this event focuses on the promotion of health and the beauty and amenities of the local area. The importance of community involvement in the running of this event is paramount to its success.

“Our chosen charity this year is Acquired Brain Injury Ireland (ABI Ireland) – local branch – Sligo. ABI Ireland is a dedicated provider of community-based neuro-rehabilitation services for people with an acquired brain injury (ABI) and their families.

“As a brain injury can affect a person’s ability to manage their own life, ABI Ireland works in communities across Ireland to support and empower people to rebuild their lives. ABI Ireland also campaigns, educates and advocates for the rights and needs of this hidden group in society.

“Monies this year will go to Acquired Brain Injury Ireland – Sligo Branch, covering Sligo, Leitrim and West Cavan. To our sponsors, whilst aware of the difficult financial circumstances at present, we would very much appreciate if you or your company could help us in any way with the running of this event.

“Any donation, no matter how small, would help us offset some of the costs associated with the running of the event and ensure the maximum amount of money goes towards the invaluable work of Acquired Brain Injury – Ireland – Sligo Branch.

“Sponsors will receive significant publicity and recognition including your company name on all publicity material. If you think you may be in a position to contribute in any way, we can be contacted using any of the methods below.

“We are extremely grateful for all the support we have received in the past and acknowledge that events like this could not take place without the support of our very generous sponsors.

“Please see website and Facebook for further details on the race information closer to race day” states as he looks forward to large numbers of runners and walkers participating in the annual Glens Run races on Saturday, September 12.
