Although it wasn’t the performance he wanted, everyone in Carrick-on-Shannon Athletic Club was thrilled to see Gerard O’Donnell don the Green vest in the O2 arena in Prague last Friday.

TVs and computers were being watched avidly by members all over the world on Friday morning and the Club would like to thank everyone who sent message of support and good wishes for Gerard before and after Friday’s 60m Hurdles heats.

Gerard’s time of 8.06 was his fourth fastest time and it is a measure of how far he has progressed in such a short space of time that he is unhappy with such a time. Best of luck for the rest of the season.

A special shout out also to Gerard’s team of travelling supporters who made the journey out to Prague.

Back home, the focus was outdoors with David O’Connell and Caoimhe O’Connor in action in the Minor races at Saturday’s Glo Health All-Ireland Schools Cross-country Finals in Clongowes Wood College near Cellbridge. David turned in a great performance to finish 50th in the boys race with Caoimhe 72nd in the girls race.

Finally, continued best wishes to Michael O’Brien for a speedy recovery after his recent illness. Our high jumping guru was sorely missed in Athlone at the Western Region Indoors and we hope to see him back in full flight soon.
