Leitrim has a new world champion. Just returned home from the USA, Sgt. Robert Conroy, Dromahair won the gold medal at the 2015 World Police & Fire Games in Fairfax, Virginia.

Established in 1985, the biennial event sees police officers, firefighters, customs and prison officers participating in over 65 sporting events and this year attracted 12,000 contestants from around the world.

Robert, a member of an Garda Siochana stationed in Manorhamilton, emerged triumphant in the Individual Skeet Shooting competition and also picked up silver and bronze medals in team event competitions. Robert is no stranger to the winner’s podium, having picked up medals in previous games in New York in 2011 and Belfast in 2013.

This is his first year to collect the gold medal for an individual event at the games. Comhghairdeas leat, a Robert.
