No apology from Taoiseach

While Taoiseach Enda Kenny has said he regrets the confusion over the Roscommon Hospital issue he will make no apology for making assurances on the future of the A&E Department before the last election, pointing out that this had been the Fine Gael policy on the hospital “at the time”.

Speaking Tuesday morning, Mr Kenny said his commitment on Roscommon earlier this year was ‘given in good faith’, but that since then HIQA had warned about patient safety at the hospital. He said that the Government could not carry on with plans to retain services if patient safety was at risk.
