Ms. Jackie Maguire chair of County Leitrim PEACE III Partnership has launched Phase 2 of the PEACE III programme in Leitrim.
The plan, which will run until the end of 2013 has been awarded €1.76 million in Programme costs, together with Management Costs that bring the total to just over €2 million. These funds will be put to very good use over the next two years for the benefit of people in Leitrim. The programme is funded through the European Union’s European Regional Development Fund managed by the Special EU Programmes Body.
County Leitrim Peace III Partnership was established in 2008 as a sub committee of Leitrim County Development Board. It has representation from elected representatives, statutory bodies, social partners and the development sector.
The plan was written following much consultation with organisations working in Leitrim and the public. This has resulted in a plan that sets out what the Partnership feels needs to be done to address the issues of sectarianism and racism in Leitrim.
Whilst these issues may not be obvious to many of us, they do exist and need to be addressed. Delivery of the plan is taking place over a short period of time, less than two years, and this is possible thanks to the support of partnership members, several of whom will deliver projects that address the core issues of racism and sectarianism but including work with young people and the minority religious and ethnic communities in Leitrim.
Cross border work also features heavily. There is also a Small Grants scheme that will be of interest to any group that wants to run a project which meets the PEACE criteria.
The plan can be found on www.leitrimcoco.ie in the Community & Enterprise section.
