Leaving Cert begins today

This morning, Wednesday, June 6 dozens of Leitrim students will turn over English Paper 1 as they begin their Leaving Certificate examinations.

This morning, Wednesday, June 6 dozens of Leitrim students will turn over English Paper 1 as they begin their Leaving Certificate examinations.

Around 53,789 students nationwide will start the important exams this morning which run until June 22. The Leaving Certificate exams will be facilitated in seven centres around the county in Carrick-on-Shannon Community School, Mohill Community College, Ballinamore PPS, Carrigallen Vocational School, Drumshanbo Vocational School, Lough Allen College, Drumkeerin and St Clare’s Comprehensive College, Manorhamilton.

There are also Leitrim students attending schools in neighbouring counties, most notably in Moyne Community School, St. Mel’s College, Longford, St. Mogue’s College, Bawnboy, Magh Ene College in Bundoran, Coola Vocational School, Sligo Grammer School, Summerhill College.

The results of these exams will open doors to further education or careers. It is hoped that maths and science results will improve upon the last few years stats.

Leitrim Junior Certs will also begin exams this morning. Nationally 59,684 students in the county will also sit their Junior Certificate exams this week.

Experts are advising parents to be attentive to students’ stress levels around this time. Plenty of fresh air, breaks and balanced nutrition is essential over the next two and a half weeks.
