In his opening statement at the Leitrim County Council meeting on September 3, Cathaoirleach Enda Stenson said councillors were currently “in the eye of the storm.”

The comment was made in relation to the Leitrim Observer’s front page story last week on councillors’ expenses, which seems to have sparked much debate around the county.

Cathaoirleach Stenson welcomed the 22 Leitrim Councillors back after their Summer break.

Speaking about the coverage on councillors’ wages and expenses he commented, “I don’t believe anyone has done anything wrong.”

“We were elected by the people, to serve the people and we are only answerable to those people,” he concluded.
