Cannabis plants with a street value of approximately €300,000 were seized in a raid on a growhouse in Kinlough by gardai on Friday, May 17.

Gardai uncovered what they described as a very “sophisticated operation” with plants at various stages of growth.

The building was located on the outskirts of the village of Kinlough.

Nobody was arrested in the raid but a large amount of paraphernalia related to the cultivation of the cannabis plants, was also seized in the raid.

Investigations are continuing into the growhouse.

This is not the first major drugs find in the area, in a separate incident in late 2011 cannabis plants with a street value of approximately €500,000 were found in a raid of a warehouse in the Kinlough/Tullaghan area.

Gardai have also made a number of large drug seizures in other parts of the county in recent years as well. In February this year cannabis plants with a street value of €490,000 were seized in a raid at Kilclare, while in March 2011 over 400 plants were discovered growing in a converted attic space in two vacant houses in Dromod.
