The International Mushroom Festival, set up to unite mushroom and those who love our natural environment, will be held at Killegar, Carrigallen on October 12 and 13.

This is the third successive year for the festival and it has already attracted experts from Ireland, the UK, Germany, Italy, Poland and the USA.

Amongst other things, festival goers will learn about the most common species of mushroom, edible and poisonous and will take part in guided foraging, talks and get a chance to view a number of exhibitions and try some delicious dishes courtesy of Joe Shannon, Executive Head Chef of the Radisson Blu Sligo who will be hosting a number of cookery demonstrations. There will also be a food an craft fair and a special OWLS nature club for children visiting the event.

All proceeds will go to the ‘Save Killegar Campaign’ set up to preserve one of the country’s last remaining heritage houses and its woodlands.
