Hoteliers lobby on VAT rate
During Minister Leo Varadkar’s visit to the county, local hoteliers took the opportunity to lobby him on the VAT for the hospitality sector.
VAT for that sector could be increased to 13.5% in this year’s budget.
Joe Dolan (The Bush Hotel) and Clement Gaffney (Lough Rynn Castle Hotel) used their time wisely to implore the Minister not to touch it and to allow the industry to prosper and jobs to be saved.
The minister told the paper the VAT rate at 9% was “only ever intended to be temporary.”
