Leitrim County Council is continuing to work closely with “all relevant agencies and the business owner at the Avant Card site in Carrick-on-Shannon”, in a bid to secure a long term tenant to replace Bank of America’s MBNA business.
Cllr Enda Stenson revisited the situation in Carrick-on-Shannon noting that the former MBNA site offered a wonderful opportunity to new companies coming to the area.
Cllr Stenson stressed the importance of securing a replacement business especially in light of the fact that “we continue to loose our youngest and brightest to the bigger cities and immigration” due to a lack of available jobs.
Responding to Cllr Stenson, the Director of Service, Planning, Community and Economic Development, explained that the Council continued to work closely with all relevant agencies to source a new businesses for this site.
“The Council is also active members of the interagency task force established by the Department of Enterprise and Jobs in this regard,” it was noted.
“A significant property marketing campaign based around the ‘Carrick Campus’ is also in progress.
“The opportunity for not alone the County but the region arising from this state of the art and ready to go facility should not be underestimated, a point which has been clearly identified through the work of the Council in the preparation of a new economic strategy.”
In particular, regular engagement is ongoing with the IDA in regard to the securing of fresh employment and we are satisfied that the sourcing of employment opportunities for this location is a key priority for the IDA,” added the Director of Service.
