Unmanned Aerial Vehicles are being used by archaeologists from Saint Louis University, USA to detect medieval artefacts that are untraceable by the naked eye on land.

Professor Thomas Finan from the University has been exploring the North Roscommon area for over 20 years in an effort to piece together medieval settlements to explain the social structure of the 13th century. The aerial vehicle has resulted in new digital data to be examined along with traditional surveys of the area.
