The pictures taken by Sarah Steven depicted the manner in which the hotel, which underwent a significant transformation before being re-opened in 2004 after being closed for a number of years but has fallen into a state of disrepair since it was closed. Sarah’s blog resulted in a local campaign to re-open the hotel and various avenues were looked into to establish how the hotel could be restored to its former glory but to date those efforts have proved to be unsuccessful.

The Grafton Media Blog Awards aim to bring online communities together, “to celebrate the best of Irish blogging, and offer businesses and bloggers an opportunity to increase their visibility and prominence in social media circles. With more people being guided in their buying decisions by bloggers rather than friends’ opinions, blogging is a considerably influential tool in word of mouth marketing. The organisers expect 250 people to attend the event on October 13 with hundreds more following the event on twitter from their armchairs at home.”
