Historical Society announce details of symposium

Carrick-on-Shannon & District Historical Society have announced details of a symposium on ‘Journalism Past, present and Future’ as well as lecture looking at the history of the Orange Order.

Carrick-on-Shannon & District Historical Society have announced details of a symposium on ‘Journalism Past, present and Future’ as well as lecture looking at the history of the Orange Order.

The Journalism Symposium will be held on Saturday, September 15 in Carrick-on-Shannon’s Local History Centre in The Market Yard. The speakers on the day will include Farrell McElgunn, James Downey (Irish Independent), John Waters (Irish Times) and Claire McGovern (Leitrim Observer).

Registration for the Symposium will be held at 1.45pm on September 15 and it will close on 7pm, with a break during the day for tea and sandwiches. The Historical Society have also announced details of the monthly historical lecture which will take place on Wednesday, September 19 at 8.30pm with the subject being: ‘The Orange Order - A Look at its history, formation and tradition.’

The lecture will be given by David Scott, Community Education Officer, Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland, Belfast.

The lecture will be held in The Bush Hotel and admission is free to society members; general public €5 and concessions €3.
