The HSE’s decision to outsource laundry services at Cavan General has been suspended.
Local SIPTU had challenged the Health Executive’s decision to outsource the laundry services by the end of August, saying that it could be in breach of the Croke Park agreement. Staff at Cavan General had balloted in favour of industrial action earlier this month week.
The HSE claimed that outsourcing facilities would reduce expenditure, but SIPTU said it wouldn’t be cost effective. The trade union have put forward a number of cost saving alternatives. It is understood that the contract for the laundry service could be around €1m.
SIPTU said the suspension of the decision will allow for discussions about a more viable option.
