No registration, no septic tank grant

Following discussions at Monday’s Council meeting it has emerged that, unless you have registered your septic tank by the 1st of February you will not be able to avail of grants to upgrade your system.

Cllr Enda McGloin raised the matter via a motion at the monthly meeting urging people to immediately register their septic tanks.

Addressing the chamber, Cllr McGloin said that people were excluding themselves from qualifying for upgrade grants by failing to register by the February deadline.

Further clarifying the issue, Cllr McGloin added that he understood that the application process for the upgrade grants would not be immediately open to everyone registered but would only come on-line when a system was inspected and an inspector’s report confirmed that the present system was not up to standard.

“It is not the case that if you think your system needs to be upgraded, you can simply apply for the grant and you will get it. Your system has to be tested and failed,” he said.

“The inspections will be carried out on areas of high risk initially. However I would encourage everyone to register before the start of February.

“If you aren’t registered you will simply not be eligible for a grant to upgrade and that’s the reality.”
