Planning to stay low in Leitrim

The latest edition of the National Housing Construction Index illustrates that Leitrim has the second highest percentage drop in planning applications this year.

The report suggests that we may expect to see a significant drop in planning commencements in the near future in Leitrim also.

The team of researchers at www.link2plans.com have examined every housing construction planning application and planning commencement from January to June 2013. The Index gives a direct comparison with the exact same period in 2012.

Leitrim planning applications fell by 31% from 55 in January to June 2012 to 38 in the same period in 2013. Furthermore, planning commencements made in Leitrim also decreased by -7% from 29 in January to June 2012, to 22 in the same period in 2013. Other counties that performed badly in the planning applications index are Offaly, Sligo and Laois recording a fall of applications by 37%, 28% and 26% consecutively.

Compared to Leitrim, the outlook is positive for particular pockets around the country which are experiencing an increase in commencements and applications.

Four counties also show an increase in commencements with Roscommon showing an increase by 41%, Wexford by 19%, Monaghan by 10% and Dublin by 9%.
