With the holiday season underway, motorists are advised to check their tyres before hitting the roads either at home or abroad.
“Checking your tyres before you head off will not only keep you safe but will save you money also,” advised Joe Flanagan, Area Sales Manager, Bridgestone Ireland.
“Tests carried out by us across Europe found that 78% of vehicles have tyres that are unfit for the roads.” He advises that motorists should:
Check tyre pressure: Drivers should make sure their tyres are pumped up and ready for the road. It is vital to note that the correct tyre pressure is different for a fully laden car. Tyre pressure information can be found on the inside edge of the car door, on the fuel tank door or in the user manual.
Check tread depth: Hope for sun but prepare for rain! With sufficient tread depth, drivers can enjoy total confidence even if the weather takes a turn for the worse.
Check for damage or wear: Cuts, scuffs, abrasions and other forms of damage can easily get worse over a long journey. If in doubt, drivers should check with a tyre specialist before setting out.
