The latest National Housing Construction Index complied and issued by Link2Plans (www.link2plans.com) has shown Co Leitrim to have the largest increase in Planning Applications so far in 2012. However Commencement Notices continue to decrease in line with the national trend.

The research shows that from January to June 2012, 73 planning applications were submitted in Leitrim. This compared to 64 in 2011 resulting in an increase of 14%. This was the highest increase nationally.

The same period however saw a decrease in the number of Commencement Notices issued in Leitrim dropping from 35 to 29, a percentage decrease of 17%.

However, in figures released earlier this week, the Construction Industry Federation (CIF) has recorded a 47% decrease in the number of Co Leitrim house Commencements recorded for the first four months of 2012.

The statistics say that 10 new housing units were commenced in the first four months of 2012 in Leitrim, a decrease of 9 units or 47%, on the same period during 2011, when work began on 19 new units.

For the twelve month period up to the end of April of this year, 37 housing units were commenced in Leitrim. This compares with 53 commenced in the twelve months up to April 2011, a year on year increase of 16 units or 30%.
