On behalf of the ‘Christmas in Carrick Committee’ we wish to thank everyone who was involved in making December 15 & 16 events held in Carrick-on-Shannon such a great success.

The Christmas in Carrick-on-Shannon Committee comprises of local business people, representatives from the Chamber of Commerce, Leitrim County Council, Leitrim Organic Farmers Co-Op, The Dock, Leitrim Design House, the Market Yard and members of our community. We came together to highlight the wealth of events being held in our town at Christmas time whilst promoting a shop local campaign for Carrick-on-Shannon.

We wish to acknowledge the vital role the local businesses played in making the weekend a resounding success. Not only did they wholeheartedly embrace our ideas they also contributed enormously through funding an Ice Rink which proved very popular. We also want to acknowledge those businesses that gave up their free time and donated merchandise and Bank of America, Allied Irish Bank and Bank of Ireland for their sponsorship.

We were fortunate to participate in and to be chosen to promote our town on RTE’s ‘Today Show’. We wish to thank the many volunteers who came on the day of filming and helped to make Carrick truly magical. We are most grateful to Mimar Media for their hard work, vision and enthusiasm especially with such short notice.

The Craft, Food & Floral markets that graced the town really added to the wonderful array of shops, boutiques, cafes and restaurants we have in Carrick-on-Shannon.

We are very grateful to all who took the time to join us to participate in entertaining the crowds. We were treated to carol singing, Hip Hop dancing, dance performances from Sean Nos ar an tSionann, Pam Troy solo singing, busking, Trad Music and Tara Killeen and friends who brought a smile to people’s face by handing out lollipops.

Our various events contributed towards many charities by helping to raise almost €6000. This money will help fund vital services in the Northwest Hospice, The Saint Vincent de Paul, The Lauralynn Sunshine House, The Irish Cancer Society and The Northwest Simon Community.

We wish to thank the members of the public who supported our ideas on social media and who embraced our BE, BUY, ENJOY Local campaign. You really got into the spirit of Christmas and we truly hope you enjoyed our efforts. We hope to return next year and host a bigger and better display of what our town can offer you at Christmas.
