Roscommon / South Leitrim TD, Michael Fitzmaurice has spoken of his frustration in relation to the turf-cutting situation. Several matters relating to the practice are still in the process of going through the courts system and Mr Fitzmaurice has said those involved will have to take decisive action to resolve these issues.
In a statement to the Observer, Mr Fitzmaurice said that the Turf Cutters and Contractors Association are expecting judgements within the month in two cases which are currently in front of the courts. He warned: “Turf cutters will shortly be exercising their rights to cut turf on all bogs and I can assure everyone that the TCCA will be doing everything possible to find a resolution to this problem. “I am calling on the Minister to step up to the plate on this issue.”
