Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams responding to questions at a public meeting in Carrick-on-Shannon last week said Sinn Féin will ban fracking in Northern Ireland.

Deputy Martin Ferris called on the Irish Government to do their research and be transparent on the issue of fracking. Leah Doherty of No Fracking Ireland asked Sinn Féin to clarify their position on Fracking North and South of Ireland. Sinn Féin had voted to ban fracking at a previous Ard Fheis. Adams said “We gave a commitment to ban fracking and we will do that.”

Northern Ireland DCAL Minister Caral Ni Chuilin has highlighted her own concerns about fracking, particularly around the lowering of water levels and the potential risk of water contamination.
